Geophysical Survey
Geophysical survey is an effective and rapid non-invasive technique used to identify buried archaeological remains, and at Context One we are pleased to offer both magnetometry and resistivity as part of this service.
Geophysical survey is particularly cost-effective where the assessment of large areas is required and little information is available. Using this method, it is possible to identify areas of archaeological potential very quickly and inform a strategy for the precise targeting of zones for further investigation. This often includes a programme of evaluation through trial trenching where any suspected remains can be appropriately characterised.
We have a well-established procedure for carrying out geophysical surveys which allows us to respond to enquiries and mobilise a survey team at short notice. If you haven’t commissioned a survey before or know little about it, we would be pleased to talk you through how it all works.
